Refurbish or replace? The Life Cycle Carbon Footprint and Life Cycle Cost of Refurbished and New Residential Archetype Buildings in London
نویسندگان
چکیده
The environmental performance of existing buildings can have a major role in achieving significant reductions CO2 emissions: In the UK, around 75% 2050's housing stock has already been built. While building improvement efforts mostly focus on operational performance, impact is result processes that occur throughout their life cycle. To achieve emission an economically viable way, this study uses Life Cycle Performance approaches to carry cross-comparison between refurbishment and replacement two archetypes London: mid-terrace-house bungalow. Specifically, integrates Carbon Footprint (LCCF) Cost (LCC) protocols (EN 15978:2011 BS ISO 15686–5), thermal simulations (EnergyPlus), generative design framework (PLOOTO - Parametric Lay-Out Organisation generator) mathematical optimisation algorithms (NSGA-II). Results show optimal generally performed better than replacements (Refurbishments LCCF ranges 1,100 1,500 kgCO2e/m2 LCC 440-680 £/m2, compared scenarios, ranging 1,220-1,850 550-890 £/m2). also highlights benefit incentivising re-use quicker emissions reductions. lastly discusses range embodied issues.

متن کاملLife Cycle Assessment for Buildings
The work presents the results of some case studies oriented toward the investigation of the potential of Life Cycle Assessment evaluations in the area of environmental impacts related to the life cycle of buildings. In particular, the aspects connected with the performance behavior of building components (and of the entire building organisms) are dealt, in relation to users’ needs which are cha...
متن کاملWhole Life Cycle Cost: a new approach
The last few years have seen significant improvements in the concepts, methods and general approach to calculating costs. ABC, Target Costing, Strategic Cost Management, functional analysis and costing are mobilising attention. Regardless of which of these approaches we consider, it is always from the point of view of one player whose intention is to benefit from increased knowledge of costs in...
متن کاملTechno- Economic and Life- Cycle Cost Assessment of the CCHP/ PV Hybrid System Application
In recent decades, excessive using fossil fuels has been resulted in emitting greenhouse gases such as CO2, consequently, environmental pollution. In this study, the techno-economic analysis of the CCHP/PV hybrid system application for a sample building was examined to reduce the environmental pollution and primary energy consumption of the buildings. The life-cycle cost analysis was...
